Nageire

An ikebana style arranged in a tall vase, with stems resting naturally against the rim.

Also: heika

Nageire means thrown in. The name suggests ease, though the result is carefully judged. A few branches and flowers are placed in a tall, narrow vase so that they lean and curve as they would in nature. No kenzan is used. Stems are held by the vase mouth, by splitting or bracing them with small cross-pieces of twig. The style is linked with the simple flowers of the tea ceremony. Some schools call upright vase arrangements heika.
