Succulent
A plant with thick, fleshy leaves or stems that store water for dry periods.
Succulents hold water in swollen tissue, which lets them survive long droughts. Cacti are the best-known group, native almost entirely to the Americas. Others include aloes, agaves, echeverias, kalanchoes and the stone plants of southern Africa. Many flower brightly, often briefly. Florists use small rosette succulents such as echeveria in bouquets and buttonholes, wired onto false stems, because they last for weeks out of water and can be planted afterwards.
