Namaqualand flower season
After winter rain, the dry country of South Africa's north-west is covered in orange daisies.

What happens
Namaqualand is a semi-desert in the Northern Cape of South Africa. If enough rain falls in winter, the bare ground flowers from about early August to mid September, moving from north to south. Orange and white daisies cover whole plains, with succulents and bulbs among them. The Skilpad section of Namaqua National Park is a well known place to see them. The flowers open only in sunshine, roughly from mid morning to mid afternoon, and they turn to face the sun, so travel with the sun behind you.
