Dzukou valley in the monsoon
A day-long hike to a green valley on the Nagaland and Manipur border, home of the Dzukou lily.
Presented by ClearTrust Free for gardeners, florists, travellers and the curious.

What it is
Dzukou is a rolling valley of dwarf bamboo, streams and low hills on the border of Nagaland and Manipur. It is reached on foot from the villages of Viswema or Zakhama, south of Kohima, by a steep forest climb that opens suddenly onto the valley rim. In June and July the Dzukou lily flowers here. It is a pale pink lily found only in this area, and it shares the season with other wildflowers and rhododendrons at the edges. The valley is cold at night all year. There is a basic rest house, and many walkers stay one night to see the morning mist lift.
Before you go
- The lily season is also the wet season. Expect rain, leeches and slippery steps.
- Carry warm clothes and your own food if you plan to stay overnight.
- Take all litter back out with you.
