Infiorata
An Italian festival in which streets are covered with pictures made of flower petals.
Infiorata means decorated with flowers. For the feast of Corpus Christi, in late spring, towns in Italy lay long carpets of petals, leaves and seeds along the route of the religious procession. Designs are sketched on the paving and filled in by teams working through the night. The custom is traced to Rome in the 17th century. Genzano di Roma and Spello are famous for it, and Noto in Sicily holds one in May. The procession then walks across the pictures.
