Bloemencorso

A Dutch flower parade of large floats covered entirely in fresh flowers.

Also: flower parade

Bloemencorso is Dutch for flower parade. Towns in the Netherlands and Belgium hold them through the growing season. Each float is a sculpture on a frame, covered by volunteers with thousands of flower heads pinned or glued on by hand in the days before. The parade through the bulb-growing region between Noordwijk and Haarlem takes place in April and uses hyacinths, tulips and daffodils. The parade at Zundert, in early September, is built from dahlias grown by the village's own neighbourhoods.
