Pruning
Cutting back parts of a plant to shape it, keep it healthy or improve its flowering.
Pruning removes dead, weak or crowded growth and directs the plant's energy. Timing depends on when the plant makes its flower buds. Shrubs that flower in spring on last year's wood, such as lilac and forsythia, are pruned just after flowering. Those that flower later on new growth, such as most modern roses, are pruned in late winter or early spring. In warm parts of India, roses are pruned in autumn after the monsoon for winter flowers.
