Raceme
A flower cluster with stalked flowers set along one unbranched stem, opening from the bottom up.
In a raceme each flower has its own short stalk and all the stalks join a single main stem. The lowest flowers open first, so a stem can have seed pods at the base, open flowers in the middle and buds at the top. Foxgloves, lupins, delphiniums, snapdragons and lily of the valley carry racemes. The hanging flower chains of wisteria and laburnum are racemes too. If the flowers have no stalks at all, the cluster is called a spike.
