Style
The stalk of the pistil, joining the stigma at the top to the ovary below.
The style is the neck of the pistil. After a pollen grain lands on the stigma, it grows a fine tube down through the style to reach the ovules in the ovary. Styles can be very short, as in a tulip or a poppy, where the stigma seems to sit straight on the ovary. They can also be very long. The silk on an ear of maize is a mass of styles, one for every kernel.
