Vase life
The number of days a cut flower stays fresh and good-looking in water.
Vase life depends on the kind of flower and how it has been treated. Chrysanthemums, carnations, alstroemeria and many orchids can last two weeks or more. Dahlias, sweet peas and poppies last only a few days. To get the most from any flower, use a clean vase, cut the stems, remove lower leaves, change the water often and keep the vase away from heat, direct sun and ripening fruit, which gives off ethylene gas that ages flowers.
