Cut flower
A flower harvested with its stem for use in a vase or arrangement, as opposed to a growing plant.
Cut flowers are grown to be harvested. The best kinds have long, strong stems, travel well and last in water. Roses, chrysanthemums, carnations, tulips, lilies, gerberas and orchids make up much of world trade. The Netherlands is the main trading hub. Major exporters include Colombia, Ecuador, Kenya and Ethiopia, where high-altitude sun near the equator suits roses. India, China and many other countries have very large home markets that mostly sell flowers grown nearby.
