Flower auction
A market where growers' flowers are sold to trade buyers by bidding, lot by lot.
At a flower auction, growers send in their day's harvest and wholesalers and exporters bid for it. Sales are fast, because the goods will not keep. The largest auctions are run by Royal FloraHolland, a growers' cooperative in the Netherlands, whose site at Aalsmeer is one of the biggest trading buildings in the world. Other important auctions operate in Japan and at Kunming in China. Much buying is now done remotely on screens.
