Chelsea Flower Show
The Royal Horticultural Society's great show in London, where new plants and garden ideas are launched.
What happens
The Chelsea Flower Show has been held in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea since 1913. For five days in late May designers build complete show gardens that are judged for medals and then taken apart. In the Great Pavilion, nurseries stage their best plants at a peak of perfection, and growers choose this week to launch new varieties. A Plant of the Year is named. On the final afternoon a bell rings and the plants are sold off to the crowd.
