Gardens worth a journey
Zakir Hussain Rose Garden
Chandigarh's large rose garden, with a Rose Festival each February.
Presented by ClearTrust Free for gardeners, florists, travellers and the curious.

What it is
Chandigarh was planned as a city of open green spaces, and the Zakir Hussain Rose Garden in Sector 16 is one of its best loved. It was created in 1967 and holds a very large collection of rose varieties in beds set among lawns and trees. Roses in north India flower best in the cool season, so the garden peaks from late winter into early spring. In February the city holds its Rose Festival here, with flower competitions, music and family events. On ordinary days it is a place for morning walkers and for couples and students in the evening.
Before you go
- February is the peak for both blooms and events.
- Early morning has the freshest flowers and the fewest people.
- Pair it with the nearby Rock Garden and Sukhna Lake.
The flowers you will see
Also part of it, and being written: Hybrid tea rose.
