Border
A long planted strip beside a path, lawn, wall or hedge.
Also: flower border
A border is a bed that runs along an edge. It is usually seen from one side, so tall plants go at the back and low ones at the front. A mixed border combines shrubs, perennials, bulbs and annuals so that something is happening in every season. Borders are a mark of English-style gardens, but the idea is used everywhere, from the edges of a courtyard to the beds lining a park walk.
