Centrepiece
A flower arrangement placed in the middle of a table.
Also: centerpiece, table arrangement
A centrepiece decorates a dining or reception table. The practical rule is that guests must be able to see each other, so designs are kept either low, below eye level, or raised high on a tall stand with clear space beneath. Scent matters too: strongly perfumed flowers can fight with food. A centrepiece may be one bowl, a row of small vases, a long runner of foliage and flowers, or floating blooms in a wide dish of water, as with the urli bowls of South India.
