Foliage
The leaves of a plant; in floristry, the leafy stems used to frame and fill out flowers.
Also: greenery, greens
Foliage is the florist's word for leaves and leafy branches. It gives an arrangement its outline, hides the mechanics and sets off the colours of the flowers. Common choices are eucalyptus, ruscus, leatherleaf fern, pittosporum, ivy and palm. In South and Southeast Asia, banana leaves, mango leaves, betel leaves and young coconut fronds do this work, and often carry meaning of their own, as mango leaves do in a doorway toran.
