Mandi
A wholesale market in South Asia; a phool mandi is one that trades in flowers.
Also: phool mandi, flower mandi
Mandi is the Hindi word for a wholesale market. India's flower mandis begin before dawn and deal mostly in loose flowers sold by weight from sacks and baskets: marigolds, roses, jasmine, tuberose, chrysanthemums. Garlands are strung on the spot. Well-known ones include the market near Howrah Bridge in Kolkata, Ghazipur in Delhi, Dadar in Mumbai and KR Market in Bengaluru. Prices swing sharply with festivals and wedding dates, when demand rises many times over.
