What happens

The Government Botanical Garden in Ooty, in the Nilgiri hills of Tamil Nadu, was laid out in the 1840s. Its flower show, first held in the 1890s, is the main event of the Nilgiris summer festival, when people from the hot plains come up to the cool. It usually takes place in the second or third week of May and lasts several days. Thousands of pots are arranged in terraces, and large models are built from carnations and roses. Rose, fruit and spice shows are held nearby in the same weeks.
