Floriade in Canberra
Australia's big spring bulb show, a month of tulips and annuals in a lakeside park.
Presented by ClearTrust Free for gardeners, florists, travellers and the curious.

What it is
Floriade is held each spring in Commonwealth Park, on the shore of Lake Burley Griffin in the middle of Canberra. It began in 1988 and runs for about a month from mid September. More than a million bulbs and annuals are planted in large beds that form pictures and patterns to a different theme each year: tulips above all, with daffodils, hyacinths, pansies, violas and poppies. Entry is free. There are garden talks, music, food stalls and a ferris wheel for a view of the designs from above. For a few evenings the park opens after dark with lighting.
Before you go
- Weekday mornings are quietest.
- The mix of what is in bloom changes over the month. Tulips are usually strongest around early October.
