Cutting
A piece of stem, leaf or root removed from a plant and grown on to make a new one.
A cutting is the simplest way to copy a plant. A healthy shoot is cut below a leaf joint, the lower leaves are removed, and the stem is put into moist compost or water until it roots. Geraniums, fuchsias, chrysanthemums, hydrangeas, hibiscus and roses are all raised this way. Frangipani roots readily from thick branch pieces that have been left to dry for a few days. A cutting grows into an exact copy of its parent.
