Deciduous
Describes a plant that drops all its leaves for part of the year, in winter or a dry season.
A deciduous tree or shrub sheds its leaves to get through a hard season, cold in temperate regions or drought in the tropics. Many of the most striking flowering trees bloom on bare branches before the new leaves come, which makes the flowers stand out. Cherries, magnolias and forsythia do this in spring. In India the red silk cotton, the flame of the forest and the golden shower tree flower leafless or nearly so in the dry months.
