Dried flower
A flower preserved by removing its moisture, so that it can be kept for months or years.
Also: preserved flower
The simplest way to dry flowers is to hang small bunches upside down in a dark, dry, airy place for a few weeks. Lavender, statice, strawflowers, roses, larkspur, hydrangeas and many grasses and seed heads dry well. Delicate flowers can be buried in silica gel, which keeps their shape. Colours soften and darken as they dry. Dried flowers are used in wreaths, arrangements and installations, and they offer a way to have flowers at home out of season.
