Potpourri
A mix of dried petals, leaves and spices kept in a bowl or sachet to scent a room.
Potpourri is dried, scented plant material. Rose petals and lavender are the usual base, with additions such as citrus peel, cinnamon, cloves and scented leaves. A fixative, traditionally orris root, which is the dried rhizome of an iris, helps the smell last, and a few drops of essential oil can refresh it. The name is French. Small cloth bags of the same mixture, called sachets, are put among clothes and linen.
