Veni
A hair ornament of flowers woven into a flat strip or crescent, worn on a bun or plait in India.
A veni is a woven hair piece of fresh flowers. The word comes from a Sanskrit word for a braid. Where a gajra is a simple string, a veni is denser and more patterned: flowers and sometimes leaves are stitched or tied in rows to make a band or a half-moon that sits on the bun or runs down the plait. It is worn especially in western and southern India, for weddings and festivals. Jasmine, crossandra, chrysanthemums and small roses are typical.
